Thousand Dollar Club Milestone

Thousand Dollar Club Milestone

Tortoise and Hare near the finish line!

In 2018, library patron, Sandra Figueiredo, challenged the fans of Fort Bragg Library to join her in raising funds for library expansion. The $1000 Club took off with many patrons dashing from the starting line, eager to donate funds.

Sandra, her mother, Myra, and Melinda Land-Freshwater were the first contributors. Myra Figueiredo was well-known from her years as school secretary at Fort Bragg High School. Sandra and Melinda grew up going to this branch. Melinda has honored her parents, Martha and Hank Land as the 100th donation. Sandra has honored her mother has the 101st donation: “in memory of Mrs. Fig!”

It’s been a long and winding race to the 2026 finish line. Neighborhood groups pooled their contributions. Businesses and service groups hopped into the race. Fort Bragg High School Class of ’69 and Seniors on Bikes joined forces to donate. A local cat contributed! Over the years, many donors have given on a yearly basis and many memorials have been received honoring dear friends and relatives.

It’s truly a team effort and a shared dream to build the building on the lot next to the library. In our version of the folk tale, everyone is welcome to the race–speedy types or slow and steady walkers. We’ll cross the finish line together as the annex goes up this year at 421 North Whipple Street.
