Why save seeds?
Seed security is at the root of food security. Saving seeds from your garden improves your resiliency and adaptation to the changing climate, provides connection to food sovereignty, expands your access to a greater variety of vegetable crops, and spreads joy!

Our Seed Libraries are your spot for gardening information and free vegetable, herb, and flower seeds.

The Seed Libraries are housed in each of the individual Mendocino County Branch Libraries and the Bookmobile. We are supported by the County, our Friends groups, and with volunteer help from local gardeners like you. Our mission is to encourage a thriving community of gardeners and seed savers and our Seed Libraries offer seeds and education.

Seeds at the Mendocino County Seed Libraries are free to members of our community.

Each library has resources on gardening and seed saving available for check out. You can also find information on beginning seed saving in the “Notes” section here on our Facebook page.
