In Memoriam ~ Dennis Dias
In Memoriam
Dennis Dias
1947-2024
It is with deep sadness we must report that our former Library Technician, Dennis Dias, has passed away.
Dennis’ life was multifaceted and filled with so many diverse interests and skills. He had a huge passion for music and performance, and he loved working with his hands. As a storyteller, he engaged and entertained with his narratives on all kinds of different subjects, especially the varying roles and jobs he experienced in his life. From his days as a carrier with the San Jose Mercury News, to his years as a cruise ship drummer; his time as a house painter here on the coast and, finally, his library experiences. No matter which role he played, he always had engaging stories to tell.
Dennis began his career at the library, first, by volunteering, then as an Extra-Help Library Assistant. All his hard work paid off when, upon the approval of Measure A funding, Dennis was offered a full-time Library Technician position, a position in which he excelled for many years, soon becoming many a patron’s favorite library worker. Dennis was so popular with the public that, in 2014, KNYO radio invited him to DJ with the station. Every Friday for several years, Dennis was on-air representing the library by providing news and music along with his many stories. His on-air banter soon made him one of the station’s favorite DJs.
Our hearts go out to his wife, Cat, and all of his surviving family and friends. Thank you, Dennis, for always being such a huge part of Fort Bragg Branch Library. RIP mate.
