It’s been in the works, now it’s official—Mendocino County Libraries are FINE FREE!
“Fines often deter people from coming back to the library or cause them to take decades-long gaps. Sometimes people just forget to return on time and it builds up. If the person’s household changes, books can be hard to retrieve or left at Grandma’s. The library still charges for lost (items not returned within a month of when they are due) or damaged items. The remaining charges are incentives for people to care for and return these publicly-funded, shared treasures so others can enjoy them!
