Join the Ramsays at their summer home on the Isle of Skye, just before the start of World War I. Just across the bay is a lighthouse, which becomes a prominent presence in the family’s life. The story builds layers of meaning and gives glimpses of each character through Woolf’s lyrical prose. Three sections of the novel show life events from various perspectives–all leading to a promised journey to the lighthouse at the novel’s end.
