Tales of Transformations and Dreams—an NEA Big Read performance by storyteller "Oasis" Darryl Hasten, Thursday, October 25, 2018, 6-7 pm. With fifty years of experience as storyteller, actor, dancer, and human performance artist, “Oasis” Darryl Hasten journeys the realm of story, metaphor, and parable (Real Estate Magazine). Tales of Transformations and Dreams will celebrate the tradition of "fantastic tales" as shown in the 2018 NEA Big Read selection Pretty Monsters by Kelly Link. Mr. Hasten's performance will include White Seal Maid, (Jane Yolen); The Dream of Chuang, (Wm. Kotzwinkle); The Man Who Knew His Birds (Wm. Kotzwinkle); Tale of the Sands (Indries Shah Collection) and Poetry Selections.

Teen Poetry Burial Craft and Book Discussion—an NEA Big Read event

Teens will discuss the NEA Big Read book, Pretty Monsters by Kelly Link, then do a casket-shaped craft based on the short story from the book, The Wrong Grave. The Wrong Grave tells the story of a high school boy who's girlfriend dies and, in his grief, he stashes love poems in her casket during interment so she will know of his love forever. When he has second thoughts and goes back to retrieve them, he's in for a big surprise!
