A Very Long Engagement – Cinema Sundays!
May 11, 2014 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Welcome to our “Over There” Cinema Sundays! Series for May. We’re starting off with 2004’s A Very Long Engagement starring Audrey Tautou (Amelie; The DaVinci Code), Gaspard Ulliel (Strayed; The Last Day) and Jodie Foster (The Accused; Nell). A Very Long Engagement, directed by renowned French director, Jean-Pierre Jeunet, was adapted by Jeunet from the book, A Very Long Engagement, by Sébastien Japrisot.
A Very Long Engagement tells the story of a woman’s desperate attempt to find her missing fiance, one of five soldiers who injured themselves in the hope of being invalided home during World War I but were, instead, caught and sent to the front line trenches to be the first to face the oncoming German offensive. In her truth seeking journey, the young woman reveals the lives and stories of the other men cruelly sentenced to death on the front lines and the truth of her own fiance’s cowardice.
