Among the Many

Among the Many

Fort Bragg Branch Library’s Poetry Writing Workshop held a metaphorical quilting bee. At the workshop, we stitched together four impromptu poems, all sparked by Sharon Gieras’ beautiful quilt.

Among the Many, our poetry quilt, was stitched by poets Maggie, Dan, Kristan and Clare.

Among the Many

Spiraling back in
is
consistently
more challenging
complex
perplexing, even
than
spiraling
out.
And
putting the pieces
(ours, theirs)
back together
to
gether
is sometimes
hardest
of all.
But what striking
beauty
comes
when we do.
_______________

The white birds pinwheel
crazily across the patchwork fields
green from the late spring rain.
Oh June! Ripe strawberries
crushed between my toes
Today we are alive!  Tomorrow?
_______________

30 patchwork
stars of pride
16 fresh explosions within
The green murky bubble bottom
closest to my body

The stiff piping
contains it from celebrating itself
all over the room
________________

They chose confetti for the border
multi-colors pull my gaze
Safe to be along the sidelines
a small speck
glowing brightly
among the many.

With much gratitude to Sharon and the Ocean Wave Quilters for making the library come alive in color several times a year.
