“We are experiencing now the fires of the future.” – CAL FIRE Chief, Ken Pimlott.  Wilder

Following last year’s Mendocino Complex Fire, the Carr Fire in Redding and the horribly destructive Camp Fire that nearly annihilated the towns of Paradise and Magalia and surrounding areas, wildland fires are foremost on everyone’s mind.

Wilder than Wild: Fire, Forests, and the Future is a documentary that reveals how fire suppression and climate change have exposed our forests and urban wildland landscapes to large, high severity wildfires, while greenhouse gases released from these fires contribute to global warming.

In this one-hour documentary, filmmaker Kevin White takes us on a journey from the Rim Fire of 2013 to the wine country wildfires of 2017. Along the way, we learn how the proactive use of prescribed fire can reduce reliance on reactive fire suppression, we see a California tribe renew their tradition of cultural fire, and we meet stakeholder groups working with scientists and resource managers to build consensus on how to restore and manage the lands we love and depend on.

Join us for a screening of the documentary followed by a panel of local firefighters and neighborhood fire-prevention coordinators to discuss what we can do to prevent and help reduce the spread of wildland fires in our area.
