Library Fine Amnesty and Food for Fines

Food for FinesLibrary Fine Amnesty and Food for Fines*

Did you find an overdue library book, movie or music CD? Do you have late charges on your library account? This December Mendocino County Library is offering two programs with the cheerful message, “You are welcome back!” From December 24th through January 2nd the Mendocino County Library will be offering a Fine Amnesty Period. All items checked in during this time will be checked in exempt from fines. This will offer an opportunity to all of our patrons to return overdue items without incurring late fines.

Additionally, during the month of December all library branches will be offering a Food for Fines period giving patrons the opportunity to clear library fines while providing non-perishable food to those in need. The library will accept up to five unexpired cans of food to go towards previously incurred late fines (not valid for damaged or lost items). Each can of food counts as $2 towards a maximum of $10 towards fines for the month of December.

Both the Fine Amnesty Period and the Food for Fines programs can only be used toward late fines. If you have an overdue item or items please drop by and take advantage of the fine amnesty period. Also, Food for Fines can help to clear your account of some late fines and benefit fellow community members. All food donated as part of this program is passed on to our local food banks. Start the New Year fresh with cleared library accounts, and check out a new book, DVD, or CD!
