Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

In this off-the-wall romantic comedy, Jim Carrey stars as a man who is informed that his ex-girlfriend has had her memories of their relationship erased from her brain via an experimental procedure.  Not to be outdone, he decides to have the same procedure.  As the procedure is being performed, in his apartment over the course of an evening, he struggles against letting go of the memories and tries to prevent their deletions.
