Indian author Arundhati Roy’s novel The Ministry of Utmost Happiness is a sweeping, Delhi-set narrative that features a large cast of characters and addresses some of the darkest and most violent incidents in modern Indian history, including the 2002 Godhra train attack and the ongoing fighting in Kashmir. Critically acclaimed, it was long-listed for two major literary awards—The Hindu Literary Prize and the Man Booker Prize.
