Mendocino County Library is now providing free access to Lynda.com for library members. Lynda.com is the leading online learning company that offers video courses taught by industry experts to learn business, technology, and creative skills through award-winning video tutorials that are available online anytime, anywhere.
What is Lynda.com for Libraries?
Through Lynda.com we will be able to provide our library patrons unlimited access to the complete Lynda.com training collection using their Mendocino County Library card number and PIN.
Lynda.com for Libraries will provide unlimited access, and the only restriction is a simultaneous use cap. For Mendocino County Library, a maximum of 35 users can be online using the service simultaneously. We don’t expect to exceed this limit for concurrent use often.
Why are we adding Lynda.com?
Mendocino County Library is expanding the Digital Resources for our library customers and county employees. The Mission of the Mendocino County Library includes:
- Provide materials to the general public for education and recreation
- Inspire lifelong learners to further their knowledge
- Enrich the lives of the patrons by offering materials that are not commonly available to the individual
We chose Lynda.com to for our online training services because of its outstanding reputation in the education and business communities and because Lynda.com keeps its video offerings and training up-to-date with the latest technology. Lynda.com’s courses provide an easy and enjoyable way for our patrons to explore their interests and receive an education that makes them more employable in today’s economy and marketplace.
How to get started?
Lynda.com for Libraries is available by web browser and by mobile app. On the web, use your library card and PIN at: https://www.lynda.com/portal/sip?org=mendolibrary.org and on mobile, look for “Lynda.com” on your favorite app store, download the Lynda.com app and then select the option to “log in through your organization.” Enter the organization URL: mendolibrary.org.
How to use Lynda.com for Libraries?
After logging in through the Mendocino County Library portal, do a search for “How to use Lynda.com” and this orientation will be the first selection. Click “Watch Now” to start viewing the course. You can watch the whole course or skip to any sections you are interested in.
Lynda.com offers a library of training videos and materials. Courses may be as short as 3 minutes (one video) to more extensive series of courses and videos. Lynda.com puts a series of videos into Learning Paths so you have the path to learn how to “Become a …”
You can earn Certifications for each Tutorial completed and also for series of Tutorials. Certifications are Lynda.com Certifications with one exception: Project Management Certification can be obtained from Project Management Institute for Lynda.com coursework.
To find a course, just browse the list of business, technology, and creative course subjects or use the search box.
To use the video training, select a video and starts watching. The video player includes various options such as controlling the playback speed: speed up the video to finish it in half the time (2x) or slow it down to watch something closely.
Each video offers an Overview, Transcript, View Offline (download) option, and, usually, Exercise Files. In addition, each video also offers playlists, bookmarks, course history, a notebook and the option to print and share Certificates of Completion.
