Meet Children’s Author ~ Natasha Yim

Join us Saturday, May 13 @ 2 pm, for a visit with beloved local author, Natasha Yim. Natasha will be here reading her new book, The Rock Maiden, a Chinese Tale of Love and Loyalty, a retelling of the legend of Amah Rock in Hong Kong.

The Rock Maiden tells the story of Ling Yee, whose husband is lost at sea during a violent storm. Refusing to believe he is gone for good, Ling Yee returns to the seashore each day awaiting the return of her love. Taking pity on her, Tin Hua, the goddess of fishermen, turns Ling Yee and her baby into stone in the hopes of being reunited with her husband in the afterlife.

The legend tells us that Ling Yee’s husband, Ching Yin, returns to the village after surviving the storm only to discover his beloved wife and child are gone. Varying from the legend, Natasha gives us a happy ending for in the Rock Maiden, Tin Hua sees Ching Yin’s devastation and once again takes pity, restoring Ling Yee and their child back to life and reuniting the family.
